About The Position

The Trade Compliance Specialist manages and monitors compliance with global trade regulations, including import/export laws, tariff classifications, licensing requirements, and customs documentation. They work cross-functionally with supply chain, logistics, legal, and finance teams to ensure accurate and timely movement of goods across borders.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with U.S. customs operations, duty drawback, or customs accounting within a corporate environment.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing large data sets (imports, exports, inventory) and reconciling discrepancies.
  • Proficiency with Excel (e.g., pivot tables, vlookups, basic formulas) and comfort working with multiple data sources.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Supply Chain, International Trade, or related field; or equivalent years of directly relevant experience.
  • Prior experience working directly on duty drawback programs (either in-house or through a drawback specialist firm).
  • Exposure to manufacturing environments and the ability to understand bills of material and production records.
  • Experience with ERP a plus (Infor LN).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee end-to-end administration of the company’s U.S. duty drawback program
  • Collect, reconcile, and validate data from customs entries, bills of lading, commercial invoices, inventory records, and internal systems to support drawback claims.
  • Prepare and review drawback claims and work with third-party providers responsible for claim filing.
  • Maintain comprehensive and organized drawback documentation and audit files, ensuring traceability from import to export.
  • Manage Customs audits and inquiries related to drawback, ensuring timely and compliant responses.
  • Develop and maintain internal SOPs, controls, and calendar tracking for claim deadlines and record retention requirements.
  • Coordinate with IT and Finance to improve data quality and implement automated data feeds and reconciliation routines to support drawback.
  • Analyze drawback program performance and produce periodic reports and metrics on recovered duties, claim status, and financial impact.
  • Educate internal stakeholders (e.g., Logistics, Sales, Operations) on drawback-eligible scenarios, documentation needs, and process requirements.
  • Monitor regulatory and procedural changes related to drawback and implement necessary adjustments to policies and processes.
