About The Position

The Trade Compliance Manager supports trade compliance activities across the United States (U.S.), Canada, and Mexico. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate tariff classifications, adherence to applicable trade regulations, and collaboration with cross-functional partners to identify compliance risks and cost-saving opportunities. The ideal candidate brings strong import compliance expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to partner across the organization. Requirements

  • Associate degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics/Transportation, International Business, Business Administration, Customs Administration, or a related field — or equivalent work experience.
  • Coursework in customs compliance, international trade regulations, or tariff classification preferred.
  • 2+ years of hands-on import compliance experience, including HTS classification, tariff application, CBP regulations, and entry accuracy reviews.
  • Experience reviewing or auditing CBP Form 7501s and managing classification databases.
  • Experience resolving discrepancies related to AD/CVD, Section 301, country of origin, and valuation.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply U.S. Customs regulations, rulings, and trade statutes.
  • Advanced organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of import compliance experience, including tariff audits, classification audits, and regulatory research.
  • Experience supporting CTPAT, ISA, or internal/external customs audits.
  • Exposure to trusted trader programs, AD/CVD cases, and Section 301 interpretation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics/Transportation, International Business, Business Administration, Customs Administration, or a related field.
  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS).
  • Certified Classification Specialist (CCLS).

Responsibilities

  • Manage tariff-related activities, including product classification, tariff audits (e.g., like-for-like product comparisons), information management, and monitoring updates to U.S. Customs and trade regulations.
  • Oversee the Trade Compliance team inbox, ensuring timely, accurate responses to inquiries and workflow requests.
  • Process part number setup requests related to tariff classification, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage export product requests to Canada, including proper documentation, classification, and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain and enhance standard operating procedures (SOPs) for trade compliance activities in alignment with company standards and Grainger requirements.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders, including customs brokers, to resolve classification, duty rate, and clearance issues.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Procurement, Sourcing, Grainger partners, Transportation, Sales, and other teams to support sourcing initiatives, compliance reviews, and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Support additional trade compliance projects and day-to-day activities as assigned by the Director, Logistics & Trade Compliance.
