About The Position

We are seeking a Trade Compliance Intern to support the Mercury Marine team. This position will be based in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Mercury Marine is seeking a motivated and curious Trade Compliance Intern to support import operations and learn the fundamentals of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) compliance. This internship provides hands‑on exposure to import processes, product classification, trade regulations, and compliance documentation. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, eager to learn, and interested in how global trade works in a real business environment. Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, International Business, Business Administration, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with data in Excel or other spreadsheet tools.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interest in global trade, compliance, logistics, or international business.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States immediately, without the need for sponsorship, now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework related to global trade, logistics, or international regulation.
  • Familiarity with Excel functions, analytics tools, or database systems.
  • Ability to analyze problems and propose solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Import Documentation & Entry Support Review import documents for completeness and accuracy under guidance from senior staff.
  • Help organize, store, and maintain import records and compliance files.
  • Support data entry into compliance databases and tracking systems.
  • Trade Research & Analysis Assist with basic product classification using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS).
  • Conduct preliminary research on trade regulations, customs rulings, and free trade agreements.
  • Monitor regulatory updates and summarize key changes for the team.
  • Compliance Programs & Projects Support internal audits by gathering documentation and preparing checklists.
  • Participate in duty recovery, tariff mitigation, or process improvement initiatives.
  • Help compile reports, metrics, and dashboards for management.
  • Collaboration & Communication Work with internal teams (procurement, logistics, engineering) to gather needed import data.
  • Communicate with external brokers or suppliers when collecting basic information.
  • Attend team meetings and contribute to problem solving discussions.
  • Internship project to include: Project Work: The work environment is supportive, collaborative, and conducive to learning.
  • Student co-ops or interns typically work on specific projects or tasks that contribute to the organization’s goals. This may range from supporting larger projects to handling smaller, individual assignments.
  • Actively participate in the robust process of launching a new product in the market and assist with creating promotional activities that out stand the competition Fundamentals of U.S. customs regulations and import processes.
  • How HTS classification, valuation, and free trade programs work.
  • How companies manage compliance risk and maintain audit‑ready records.
  • How supply chain, engineering, purchasing, and brokers coordinate to make imports flow smoothly.
  • Use of trade compliance systems, databases, and industry tools.
