About The Position

PEMCCO is seeking a Trackwork Inspector to provide field inspection, observation, and documentation support for rail transit trackwork and associated structures. This role helps ensure conditions, workmanship, and completed work are accurately assessed, properly documented, and clearly communicated, supporting both condition assessments and construction‑phase quality oversight in active rail environments. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree, technical school, or rail maintenance/inspection training preferred.
  • Minimum ten (10)+ years of experience in rail transit / trackwork inspection and associated structures.
  • Demonstrated field experience documenting deficiencies, installed conditions, and contractor compliance.

  • Ability to walk ballast, uneven terrain, guideways, yards, structures, and construction zones safely.

Nice To Haves

  • Track inspection certifications, roadway worker protection training, or similar field safety credentials.
  • Experience with heavy rail, light rail, commuter rail, or maintenance-of-way inspection programs.
  • Experience supporting construction-phase observation and as-built markups.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field inspections of rails, ties, fasteners, anchoring systems, special trackwork, ballast, subgrade conditions, grade crossings, contact rail systems, and associated structures.
  • Observe, document, and communicate deficiencies, nonconforming work, safety concerns, maintenance-related conditions, and installation issues affecting project quality or asset reliability.
  • Support survey work, field measurements, photo documentation, and data collection required to validate existing conditions and support engineering assessments.
  • Assist with instrumentation and testing activities, including field measurement support related to rail corrugation, dynamic-force observations, or similar performance-assessment efforts.
  • Monitor contractor activities and field progress for consistency with plans, specifications, approved submittals, and MTA requirements.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports, daily field notes, issue logs, photo logs, punch lists, and summaries of observed conditions.
  • Support site visits during construction to investigate quality and progress issues and to communicate findings to engineering and project management staff.
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, contractors, and field personnel to clarify conditions and resolve discrepancies.
  • Contribute to as-built documentation by identifying and recording meaningful field changes and observed deviations.
  • Maintain awareness of work-zone restrictions, outage conditions, active operations, and safe practices in rail environments.
