About The Position

The Track Worker position at the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) involves performing routine maintenance and repairs on train tracks to ensure the safety and reliability of the light rail system. This role includes inspecting, maintaining, and repairing various components of the track system under supervision, contributing to the overall functionality of the rail infrastructure.

Requirements

• 1 year of experience in Paratransit or related field.
• Mechanical knowledge and aptitude.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with electrified track systems.
• Knowledge of switching mechanisms and re-railing methods.

Responsibilities

• Make daily inspection of the track system and report problems needing repair.
• Pick up debris along the right-of-way.
• Tighten track bolts, adjust switches, replace ties, tamp, and align track, and lubricate rail and rail curves.
• Spread and clean ballast.
• Install rail, frogs, switches, and ties.
• Operate air compressors and heavy tools and equipment used to maintain and repair track systems.
• Operate hand and power tools.
• Assist in re-railing and loading equipment.
• Keep tools and equipment clean and in good condition.
• Weld track and operate heavy equipment.
• Operate hi-rail, trucks, tamper, and other vehicles.
• Act as flag person.
• Inspect for broken welds and broken rail.
• Operate computer for related data input and retrieval.
• Prepare written reports, document defects and repairs on inspection forms, work orders, or designated computer programs.
• Familiarize other Track Workers in the proper method of performing their job.
• Perform related work as required.
