As a member of our Track Maintenance Team, you'll play a vital role in constructing, inspecting, and repairing tracks and other railroad assets and maintaining our railway corridors. This is a full-time (40hrs/wk) position and is subject to on-call, overtime, nights, alternating shifts, weekends, and holidays. Residency Requirement: Maintenance of Way employees must reside within their hired district for the duration of employment. Employees are required to: Maintain residency within the hired district or within 50 miles of a designated LAJ depot serving that district. Training for this position is company-paid on-the-job and classroom. FRA Tier II Qualification Daily work is conducted in a safety sensitive environment where the working conditions can include diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet), walking and performing work on uneven surfaces, working around loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery. Relocation assistance is not available and there is a 60-day probationary period. Requirements

  • Able to work now and in the future without LAJ’s assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status)
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Ability to report for duty at the designated work location
  • Able to work safely in the above working conditions
  • Able to work the above shift/hours
  • Able to meet the above travel requirements
  • Able to read, write and communicate (speak, hear and understand) English
  • Able to lift and carry up to 60 lbs occasionally
  • Possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with test endorsements for combination vehicle, air brake, and HAZMAT or am able to obtain one within 60 days of employment
  • Able to visually distinguish colors - red, blue, green, yellow, and lunar (clear light)
  • Ability to discriminate and differentiate between verbal and non-verbal sounds (signals, alarms, etc.) in the work environment.
  • Able to use hands and hand tools to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning and pulling
  • Occasionally climb on/off equipment
  • Able to bend, walk, stand and sit for extended time
  • Follow safety policies and procedures; wear required personal protective equipment

Responsibilities

  • Track Maintenance duties include lifting and carrying track material and assisting in track maintenance.
  • Truck operation and maintenance duties include operation of 26K+ lb trucks safely efficiently and ensure proper truck and equipment maintenance (schedule regular service and ensure equipment is in good repair) and record keeping.
  • Welding, grinding, and cutting rail as well as learning, understanding, and following welding procedures. Also maintaining records and timesheets, while taking proper precautions to reduce fire risks.
