As a Track Laborer - Regional at Union Pacific, you will be integral to the maintenance and enhancement of railroad tracks within your designated territory. This role involves conducting inspections, performing repairs, and ensuring the safe and efficient movement of trains, which is crucial for serving customers across North America. You will work as part of a dedicated team with a long-standing history in the railroad industry.

  • Conduct thorough inspections of railroad tracks, track beds, and track right-of-way to identify problems or defects.
  • Perform necessary repairs and replacements of rails, rail anchors, spikes, ballast, ties, and other components as required.
  • Assist with the handling, unloading, and movement of track materials and equipment from rail cars, carts, or trucks, which may involve digging holes and trenches.
  • Execute various track maintenance tasks, repairs, and installations, which may involve operating heavy equipment.
  • Maintain the track beds by removing vegetation and brush when necessary.
  • Sweep, pick, and dig out dust or snow from movable track parts.
  • Adhere to company and industry safety rules, practices, and procedures at all times.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, and customers.
  • Effectively handle high-pressure situations.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all railroad rules and regulations regarding safety, operations, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills to deliver information to coworkers and supervisors.
  • Experience reading and understanding instructions, including operating and safety rules, bulletins, special instructions, and federal regulatory documents.
  • Successful completion of an assessment in English before proceeding to the interview stage.
  • Possess Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A or Class B.
  • Experience working outdoors in variable weather conditions.
