About The Position

Join a team of track laborers with a record of building and repairing railroad tracks for Union Pacific over 150 years! As a Track Laborer - System, you'll perform the maintenance, repairs and installations critical to the tracks that run throughout our railroad network. Requirements

  • Applicants must have reached the age of 18 or above.
  • Possess a current and valid driver's license.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective information delivery to colleagues and supervisors.
  • Proven experience in comprehending and following instructions, including but not limited to operating and safety rules, bulletins, special instructions, and federal regulatory documents.
  • Candidates are required to successfully complete an assessment in English before proceeding to the interview stage.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience working outdoors in diverse weather conditions, either through professional, personal, or volunteer work.
  • Possession of a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A or Class B.
  • Flexibility and availability to work on-call, overtime, various shifts, seven days a week, including weekends and holidays.
  • Proficiency in operating heavy equipment such as construction machinery, farm equipment, etc.
  • Previous involvement in a construction-type environment, showcasing relevant experience from professional, personal, or volunteer work.
  • One year or more of experience in Railroad Maintenance of Way work.
  • Proficiency in welding or possession of a welding certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections of tracks, track beds, and track right-of-way to identify and address any issues or defects.
  • Replace and repair rails, rail anchors, spikes, ballast, ties, and other necessary components as required.
  • Assist in the unloading and movement of track materials and equipment from rail cars, carts, or trucks. Additionally, dig holes and trenches as needed.
  • Keep track beds well-maintained by cutting vegetation and brush, and remove dust or snow from movable track parts through sweeping, picking, and digging.
  • Perform various tasks related to railroad track maintenance, repair, and installation, including the operation of heavy equipment.
  • Adhere to company and industry safety rules, practices, and procedures to ensure a secure working environment.
  • Foster positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, and customers, and handle high-pressure situations effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with all railroad regulations for safety, operations, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
  • Complete additional assigned duties as necessary.
