About The Position

Requirements

  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Possess a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) of either Class A or Class B.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exhibit experience in comprehending and following instructions, including operating and safety rules, bulletins, special instructions, and federal regulatory documents.
  • Successfully complete an assessment in English before proceeding to the interview stage.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience in Railroad Maintenance of Way work.
  • Demonstrated ability to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions.
  • Experience in a construction-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in operating heavy equipment, including construction and farm machinery.
  • Strong welding skills or possession of a welding certificate.
  • Flexibility to work on-call, overtime, and a variety of shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors and/or customers and effectively handle controversy.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all safety regulations, operational guidelines, and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) requirements.
  • Handle and transport track materials and equipment using appropriate load/unload devices.
  • Perform regular maintenance on tracks, as well as repairing, installing, and removing components as needed.
  • Maintain the trackbed, including tasks such as removing and replacing ballast, tamping ballast, and assisting with the unloading of ballast from ballast cars.
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently to drive spikes, tighten or loosen track bolts, and use pullers to remove spikes.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
