About The Position

BYU Athletic Trainers play a vital role in supporting the health, safety, and performance of student-athletes by delivering comprehensive athletic training and sports medicine services to their assigned teams, including track and field. Responsibilities include the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries, as well as providing on-site medical coverage for practices, competitions, and assigned shifts within BYU’s sports medicine facilities. In addition, Athletic Trainers serve as clinical instructors and supervisors for students in BYU’s Athletic Training curriculum within the Exercise Science Department, offering mentorship, hands-on instruction, and professional guidance to support student learning, development, and ethical practice in a Christ-centered educational environment. Requirements

  • Master’s Degree (must have required degree by start date)
  • 3 years of NATA certification through the BOC
  • Knowledgeable in the evaluation and care of concussions
  • This position requires the successful candidate to relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of their employment.
  • All new employees who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be required to hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend.
  • All employees are required to abide by the university's Honor Code and Dress & Grooming Standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical experience with Division I athletics
  • Clinical skill in massage therapy (but licensure as a massage therapist not required)

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate injuries/illnesses for assigned athletic teams
  • Provide safe and effective treatments for injuries and illnesses within the certified athletic trainer’s scope of practice and within the guidelines of sound medical practice.
  • Make referrals for athletes to other health care professionals as needed.
  • Communicate with coaches regarding the health status and limitations of athletes.
  • Supervise student athletic trainers assigned to sport and serve as a clinical instructor to assigned students.
  • Counsel with athletes and parents regarding their health status and options available for treatment.
  • Maintain accurate records of injuries, illnesses, treatments, and referrals.
