About The Position

The Natural Resources Specialist II-III position at Texas Parks and Wildlife is responsible for planning and implementing natural resource stewardship activities within State Parks and Natural Areas of West Texas. The role involves assisting with strategies to protect, restore, and manage natural resources, preparing management plans, conducting inventory and monitoring of sensitive resources, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. The position requires collaboration with regional staff and participation in fire management programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Science, Conservation Science, Ecology, Environmental Science or closely related field.
  • For NRS II: Two years of field experience in Natural Resources Management or related field.
  • For NRS III: Four years of field experience in Natural Resources Management or related field.
  • Valid State driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain a Non-Commercial Political Pesticide Applicators license within one year of employment.
  • Ability to obtain National Wildfire Coordinator Groups Fire Fighter Type II certification within one year of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Conservation Science, Wildlife Science, Ecological Science or closely related field.
  • Experience implementing conservation and resource management projects.
  • Current National Wildfire Coordinator Groups Fire Fighter Type II certification.
  • Current Non-Commercial Political Pesticide Applicators license.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement natural resource stewardship activities within State Parks and Natural Areas.
  • Assist in developing and implementing strategies for protecting and restoring natural resources.
  • Prepare written management plans and provide GIS support for regional parks.
  • Conduct inventory, monitoring, and protection of sensitive natural resources.
  • Participate in the State Parks Fire Program, including preparation of burn units.
  • Ensure compliance with TPWD code, policies, and environmental regulations.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to regional or park staff.
