About The Position

The Geographic Information Specialist II-III position at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is responsible for the delivery of geographic information system (GIS) projects, including geodatabase design and management, as well as the development of specialized mapping applications. This role supports the division's Facility Asset Management System and Park Business System by creating, editing, and maintaining geospatial data. The specialist will also develop documentation for stakeholder training and team development, ensuring compliance with agency regulations and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in GIS, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 6 months of professional experience in managing spatial data for GIS Analyst II; 2 years for GIS Analyst III.
  • Experience with geodatabase management and mapping application development using ESRI tools or similar software.
  • Valid class 'C' Texas driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience with multiple programming languages or frameworks (ESRI APIs, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, Python).
  • Demonstrated experience leading GIS projects in a multi-user environment.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver GIS projects including geodatabase design and management.
  • Develop specialized mapping applications to meet business needs.
  • Create, edit, and maintain geospatial data for Facility Asset Management System and Park Business System.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for stakeholder training and team development.
  • Support GIS initiatives across the division as directed by the Planning and Geospatial Resources Director.
  • Comply with all agency, division, and branch rules, regulations, and procedures.
