About The Position

Overview: The towmotor operator is responsible for moving stock, loading/unloading trucks, and scrap material as needed. Organizes stock both stored outside and inside by performing the following duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Checks with the stack count list for proper piece count and type of packaging needed. Makes out an Inspection time ticket before the end of the shift per work instruction. Transfers material as needed. Organizes storage areas by part number and heat codes. Maintains and operates automated stretch wrap machine. Verifies material is properly tagged before moving. Verifies proper containers are at the production and secondary operations. Provides coverage to production lines first. Maintains part number and heat code integrity at all times. Moves chips, dust, and any other scrap material to proper areas for scrapping. Reports any problems either mechanical or safety to foreman as soon as possible. Notifies foreman of any equipment or quality issues observed. Relieves employees for breaks and lunch as needed, and take care of department emergencies that may occur. Inspects forklift per appropriate checklist as required and performs any required Operator preventative maintenance required. Reports any damage to or by the tow motor to the Processing or Shipping Foreman immediately. Adds or removes snow chains as required. Loads and unloads trucks indoors and outdoors as required. Visually checks all baskets received and unloaded for broken welds, missing pegs, broken or bent rails, and/or broken side gates and determines appropriate disposition. Removes any dust buckets, or heavy garbage, and places in the proper containers. Ensures that all material is properly tagged and weighed per appropriate procedures. Remove any scrap axles and place in the proper containers following the appropriate work instructions and procedures. Ensures that red tags are placed on product and information required is filled in. Removes all foreign and tagging material from customer dunnage. Cleans work area, machines, tools, and equipment. Follows all safety and plant rules and regulations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Prior forklift certification required or must be obtained within the first 30 days of employment.
  • One to three months of experience operating a forklift in a warehouse or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, safety guidelines, and documentation.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with team members and leadership when issues arise.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Ability to count inventory, verify labels, and understand part numbers.
  • Comfortable using scanning devices and basic digital platforms for inventory movement.
  • Satisfactory completion of Powered Industrial Truck procedure training and observe all safety requirements including the use of safety belts.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and reading comprehension.
  • Ability to lift 75 lbs, bend, stoop, and stand for an entire shift.
  • Ability to use a tape measure, dial indicators, length gages, scale/rule, roll stand, micrometers, calipers, gages, computer.
  • Must have a good mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to operate a crane, pneumatic tools, saws, polishers, hand tools, robots.
  • Required to use the 2-way radio and exhibit good communication skills.
  • Must maintain good attendance.
