About The Position

As the Tower Technician I, you will work various job sites within Alaska performing general construction duties as part of the STG construction crew in extreme Alaskan conditions. While this position is tailored towards Tower Erection and Microwave Installation it will also include civil and grounding work. STG focuses on new site builds and microwave maintenance.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two (2) years or more experience in the Construction field required.
  • Tower Safety and Rescue Certification required within 3 months of hire.
  • Rigging certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • CDL required within 12 months of hire.
  • First Aid/CPR training or ability to become certified.
  • Valid state driver’s license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of STG Inc’s Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass a drug, driving, and background screening.
  • All-around knowledge of materials, terms, and practices in construction field.
  • Basic knowledge of climbing gear, rigging, and tower safety, or ability and willingness to learn these skills.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools.
  • Rope and knot tying skills.
  • Ability to safely utilize electronic test equipment and other specialized tools in performance of duties.
  • Ability to safely use harnesses, belts, ropes, and any other required protective equipment gear required to meet all duties of position.
  • Skill in organizing resources, establishing priorities, meeting deadlines and general time management.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, take direction from supervisor(s), high degree of attention to details, follow work rules, and adhere to project schedule.
  • Ability to work productively under pressure.
  • Strong self-motivation and work ethic; ability to work with or without direct supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, regulations, instruction manuals, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Ability to participate in group meetings.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to travel to remote places for work related purposes (up to 100% of time).
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to live and work with co-workers in close quarters and keep good morale.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in rural arctic environments preferred.
  • Six (6) months experience specific to tower erection in rural arctic environments preferred.
  • Prior experience in Alaska’s rural construction industry is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform trade for long hours, day after day, often in adverse conditions, to complete the project at hand.
  • Follow directives from Project Foreman, and anyone senior, with the sense of duty to take initiative and always remain productive at work while on the jobsite.
  • Climbing to heights of up to 300 feet daily in rural arctic environments.
  • General construction of tower sites includes, but is not limited to; site layout, excavation, foundations, erection, installation, and maintenance/repair.
  • Installation of microwave antennas, systems, and all associated components.
  • Alignment and cross-polarization of existing and newly installed antennas.
  • Installation of all hardware related to telecommunications tower and equipment.
  • Perform grounding, weatherproofing, and testing.
  • Working with a diverse selection cable types, connectors, and antennas.
  • Tower rigging and crane signaling.
  • Perform physical labor that requires considerable use of one’s arms and legs and moving your whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials at construction sites.
  • Work closely with a variety of other trades.
  • Application of versatile construction skill set to assist other trades to meet project needs.
  • Submittal of all necessary paperwork to Project Management and Accounting in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to and perform duties pursuant to the company wide safety plan.
  • Responsibility to report any incident, situation or activity that may affect the company’s ability to operate safely, ethically and profitably to the company Risk Manager.
  • Duty to conduct oneself in the best interest of the company while on the job or representing STG.
  • Act as a team member and mentor less experienced laborers.
  • Cooking and cleaning as necessary in the field quarters.
  • Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
  • Maintain any required certifications mandatory by law or company policy.
  • Work as a “team-player” with co-workers in a respectful and supportive manner.
  • Seek and participate in development and training opportunities.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
