About The Position

Important information for Summer Tour Guide Applicants: If you applied to be a tour guide for Spring 2026, please do not complete this application. If you have not done so already, email Audrey Henning at [email protected] . All tour guides must read the tour guide manual and complete training before giving their first tour. Tentative in-person training will take place the week of April 20, 2026. We will have asynchronous options for those who cannot attend in-person training. Summer tours will tentatively begin on Tuesday, May 27 and end Friday, August 22. Students do not need to be available for all scheduled summer tours. We will work to accommodate individual student schedules. You may be notified 24-48 hours before a tour that you are no longer needed. Hours worked from all summer jobs may not exceed 40 hours per week. If you have other summer employment, you agree to limit your total hours worked each week to no more than 40 hours. A summer tour guide may lead up to ten (10) tours per week. Tours typically last 60-90 minutes. There are no tours on the weekends. This is an ongoing role. Once hired and trained, tour guides remain on the roster until they graduate or resign. Tour guides may elect to defer for a semester due to study abroad or other unforeseen circumstances. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions does not provide housing or food for summer tour guides. Admissions hosts over 2,500 tours annually for prospective students and their families. Tour guides are a vital component to the campus experience. Our office employs roughly 140 tour guides, as we try to make our tour groups as small as possible while admitted students that visit in the winter or spring almost always have a private tour with a tour guide. Our Visitor Coordinator, Annette Edwards, oversees the day-to-day operations of the tour guides, including pay and scheduling. Responsibilities include: Attend mandatory training (typically once per semester) Availability for at least 3 weekly tours (may not be scheduled for 3 tours each week) Represent the University as an ambassador for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the Enrollment Division Share the Notre Dame story with prospective students and their families Emphasize the academic, spiritual, and social opportunities at Notre Dame Encourage questions Dress and act appropriately Availability Expectations: We need tour guides throughout the year, not just for the academic year! The tour guide role is ongoing. Once hired and trained, a tour guide remains on our roster until they graduate or resign. Timing for tours will vary. Most tours will start at 11 AM or 3 PM on Mondays through Fridays and at 11 AM and 12 PM on Saturdays. We oftentimes host special groups and admitted students (especially at The Rally), which are usually outside the aforementioned times. Tours typically last between 60 and 90 minutes. Each tour guide is paid for at least 1½ hours of work for each tour that they are scheduled to give. During the busiest times of the year, a tour guide may be scheduled for multiple tours per week; during the slow season, a tour guide may give one tour every other week.
