About The Position

The State of Connecticut's Department of Administrative Services is seeking seasonal employees for various roles at Topsmead State Forest and Black Rock State Park. These positions are designed to provide real-world experience while contributing to the maintenance and enjoyment of state parks. The roles include Ticket Booth Attendants, Interpretive Guides, Maintainers, Crew Leaders, Park Maintenance Supervisors, Office Supervisors, Park Rangers, Campground Supervisors, and Camp Office Staff, with varying start and end dates throughout the summer season.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years old for Camp Office Staff and 18 years old for other positions.
  • Ability to follow instructions and perform physical tasks as required.
  • Experience in retail or customer service is preferred for several positions.
  • Experience or education in natural sciences is preferred for Interpretive Guides.
  • Experience in custodial work, landscaping, or related skilled trades is preferred for Maintainers and Crew Leaders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in campground management for Campground Supervisors.
  • Extensive experience in outdoor recreation management for Park Ranger Supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general ticket booth services, including ringing up parking fees and selling season passes.
  • Act as primary visitor contact and conduct interpretive programs to enhance public understanding of natural resources.
  • Perform maintenance tasks such as litter pickup, cleaning, mowing, and painting.
  • Supervise and work with a crew of Seasonal Maintainers in park operations and maintenance.
  • Assist in the maintenance of recreational facilities and supervise Seasonal Maintainers.
  • Provide general office support at the ticket booth, including customer service and operational tasks.
  • Interact with the public to ensure safe and orderly enjoyment of the park as a Park Ranger.
  • Manage campground operations, including supervising staff and resolving visitor issues.
