S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to work in our Prototyping and Tooling department as a Toolroom Machinist. As a Toolroom Machinist, you’ll be crucial in ensuring quality parts are machined for a wide variety of production tools and R&D prototypes. You will work in a production environment, engage in continuous productive activity and must meet requirements within predetermined time constraints. Tasks require the use of both hands and arms on a repetitive basis for a full range of motion.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years minimum of demonstrated experience with the setup and operation of manual or CNC machine tools.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting various types of Blueprints and Engineering Drawings.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing techniques using machine tools, including lathes, saws, drill presses, mills, grinders, and CNC machine tools.
  • Sound communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members within the department.
  • Work with limited supervision to meet productivity and due date requirements while maintaining quality and productivity standards.
  • Ability to design and make fixtures and jigs for machining operations.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to use root cause problem solving techniques to determine solutions for various types of machining issues.
  • Ability to use and apply shop mathematics, including geometry, trigonometry, and Machinery’s Handbook formulas as required to complete assignments.
  • Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gages, gape pins, gage blocks, etc. to inspect parts.
  • Train other team members within the department on machines as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with electronic drawing softwares such as AutoCAD, Pro-E, Solid Works, or Solid Edge
  • Experience with Esprit CAM programming software
  • Experience with Mazak Mazatrol programming software and machine tools
  • Experience with Prototrak lathes and mills
  • Experience with Wire EDM machines (Mitsubishi, AgieCharmilles)
  • Knowledge of Lean and Continuous Improvement principles

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret Engineering Drawings.
  • Create process plans for the manufacture of a variety of parts.
  • Set up various machines including selection and utilization of appropriate fixtures and tooling per part requirements.
  • Program CNC machines using conversational style on-machine programming software.
  • Operate various machines to create unique parts utilizing correct machine parameters (feeds, speeds, depth-of-cut, etc.).
  • Ensure parts are made to specifications per supplied engineering drawings or CAD models.
  • Perform basic routine maintenance on machines and tools to ensure longevity and quality fabrication, including cleaning and reporting mechanical/electrical issues to department leaders.
  • Train other departmental team members on equipment as necessary
