About The Position

Are you a skilled Toolmaker with a passion for precision and craftsmanship? We're seeking a talented individual with experience in progressive and transfer tooling to join our highly skilled team. In this role you will produce tools and machinery that cut and form metal or other materials, build and debug progressive and transfer tooling and automated machinery to prints and specifications, create jigs or fixtures, which are used to hold metal in place when it is stamped or drilled, produce gauges and measuring devices, and follow a tool design/blueprint plan to measure the metal pieces for cutting, drilling or boring, continually verifying that the tool meets the specifications. You will also put the pieces together and finish the tool by filing, grinding or polishing, read blueprints prepared by tool designers or engineers, troubleshoot to identify and repair tooling and machinery breakdowns, conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications, and set up and operate conventional or CNC machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes. Other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of tooling experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Must be able to use advanced trades mathematics together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, handbook formulas
  • The successful candidate must have an equivalent to a completed accredited apprenticeship
  • Must be skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments, CNC equipment, multi-machine workstations
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 2-year technical degree a plus

Responsibilities

  • Produce tools and machinery that cut and form metal or other materials
  • Build and debug progressive and transfer tooling and automated machinery to prints and specifications
  • Create jigs or fixtures, which are used to hold metal in place when it is stamped or drilled
  • Produce gauges and measuring devices
  • Follow a tool design/blueprint plan to measure the metal pieces for cutting, drilling or boring, and continually verify that the tool meets the specifications
  • Put the pieces together and finish the tool by filing, grinding or polishing
  • Read blueprints prepared by tool designers or engineers
  • Troubleshoot to identify and repair tooling and machinery breakdowns
  • Close tolerance form grinding
  • Design and build short-term projects such as simple jigs, fixtures and single station tooling
  • Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications; make adjustments as necessary
  • Set up and operate conventional or CNC machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes
  • Design jigs, fixtures, and templates for use as work aids in the fabrication of parts or products
  • Other related duties as assigned
