Amca’s first toolmaker will work with engineers to develop tools and small run production parts that rapidly convert design ideas into prototypes.
Use in-depth familiarity of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) to machine tools, molds, and initial prototype parts based on desired final part geometries.
Creatively machine, fabricate and assemble plastic molds, small-run machined parts, other tooling, and prototype aerospace parts.
Perform manual milling, turning, and EDM operations.
Go from concept/rough engineering sketches to completed prototype tools and parts as quickly as possible.
Provide design for manufacturability feedback on tool and part designs.
Apply creative solutions to perform spur of the moment design and machining adjustments to achieve desired part outcomes in a fast-moving environment.
Assist with machine selection, initial machine setup and activation, and routine maintenance.
5+ years of experience in toolmaking.
5+ years of experience in machining, with a focus on aerospace or high-precision components (preference to 5 axis experience).
Proficiency in CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, HyperMILL, or Esprit) and 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Siemens NX).
Deep understanding of G-code, M-code, and CNC program editing.
Ability to use and learn a variety of software to observe, analyze, evaluate, and communicate pertinent information.
Strong knowledge of GD&T, blueprint interpretation, and tolerance stack-ups.
