The Toolmaker sets up, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs progressive and single hit stamping dies used in high-volume production. This highly skilled role requires diagnosing complex tooling issues, performing precision repairs, and ensuring dies consistently produce high-quality parts that meet strict production and quality standards. You’ll also drive tooling improvements through root cause analysis, process optimization, and cross-functional collaboration. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3+ years’ experience with progressive stamping dies, troubleshooting die issues, and precision surface grinding.
  • Ability to read tooling prints, die layouts, and engineering drawings
  • Skilled with precision measurement tools
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Solid understanding of tool steel behavior, wear patterns, and preventative maintenance practices.

Responsibilities

  • Perform die changeovers and press setups, ensuring proper alignment, shut height, and clearances.
  • Diagnose and resolve die issues affecting part quality, production efficiency, and press up time.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and complete die tear-down inspections to identify wear, damage, and potential failures.
  • Repair or replace die components such as punches, die sections, springs, retainers, guide components, and wear plates.
  • Perform precision surface grinding and tool sharpening to restore cutting geometry and tolerances.
  • Analyze tooling wear patterns and implement corrective actions to extend die life and reliability.
  • Respond quickly to tooling-related downtime and quality concerns to support production.
  • Verify tooling dimensions using precision measuring equipment to ensure specification compliance.
  • Maintain accurate records of die maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance activities.
