About The Position

An experienced machinist is needed to support production through the use of manual equipment and independently solve problems. The position involves analyzing specifications, laying out metal stock, fitting and assembling parts to fabricate and repair metal-working dies, cutting tools, fixtures, gauges, and machine hand tools. Depending on the Ruger campus location, toolmakers may create precision molds to support manufacturing using vertical milling centers, EDM centers, precision grinders, and 3-D printers.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 18 years old.
  • Ability to pass a background and drug screen.
  • Proficiency in the operation of manual mills, lathes, and grinders.
  • Proficiency in Geometry, Trigonometry, basic Algebra, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to select and use appropriate cutting tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Experience with basic machining principles including tooling types, speeds & feeds, threading, surface finish, and tool holding.
  • Familiarity with CAD software.
  • Ability to use micrometers, calipers, test indicators, and Cadillac gauge.
  • Understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics in fixtures.
  • Ability to use Prototrak/advanced conversational controllers-program mill, MasterCam, or CAM software.
