About The Position

The Toolmaker position at GE Aerospace involves building and repairing various types of jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies, as well as assembling and testing complex tools on manufacturing equipment. The role requires planning the setup and operation of machine tools, heat treating parts, and potentially programming CNC equipment. The Toolmaker will collaborate with engineers and tool designers on new product development and must be able to work with close tolerances and fine finishes. The position also includes troubleshooting tools and equipment, cross-training other employees, and participating in team initiatives while adhering to safety procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Education or GED equivalency.
  • 5 years Toolmaker experience.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools and measuring devices.
  • Proficient in complex mathematical calculations.
  • Advanced understanding of blueprint and process sheet interpretation.
  • Working knowledge of machine shop operations.

Nice To Haves

  • 5-10 years toolmaking experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Education and/or training in machine shop operations.
  • Understanding of CNC and manual machine operations.
  • Basic programming knowledge.
  • Experience in a self-directed team environment.
  • Journey Person and/or Apprenticeship Program within Machining and/or Toolmaking.
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with 5S & lean manufacturing knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Build and/or repair all types, sizes, and shapes of jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies.
  • Assemble and test complex tools and dies on manufacturing equipment.
  • Plan set up and operation of all types of machine tools.
  • Heat treat parts as required.
  • May program, set up and operate CNC equipment.
  • Partner with Engineers and Tool Designers on new product development.
  • Set up and operate metal working machines.
  • Use all tools, jigs, fixtures, and gages necessary to perform operations.
  • Work with close tolerances and fine finishes.
  • Perform duties on complex prototypes or first-time builds.
  • Troubleshoot tools, fixtures, and equipment as necessary.
  • Perform job responsibilities according to internal process specifications.
  • Interact with internal and/or external customers and support functions.
  • Cross-train other employees as needed.
  • Exemplify and coach others on GE Leadership behaviors.
  • Report problems to appropriate resources.
  • Proactively work to improve efficiency and quality of products.
  • Participate in and support team initiatives.
  • Utilize proper PPE and follow safety procedures.
