About The Position

JOB SUMMARY: Repair Molds, coordinate the maintenance of and change out tools and molds as needed. Also, includes the proper tagging and storing of molds. Work may involve irregular work schedules and exposure to chemicals, high voltage from electrostatic equipment, loud noise, heavy moving of equipment/machinery, and/or work in high places and confined spaces. Work on special projects requiring hands-on mechanical aptitude. Will work with the EM/Technician to install or integrate new or changed components.

  • High School diploma or equivalent with the ability to learn quickly.
  • Basic math/reading skills including using decimals, fractions, geometry, etc.
  • Ability to disassemble and reassemble molds with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude (i.e. to perform set-up of equipment, etc.) with ability to read and interpret blueprints/schematics.
  • Able to use various measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc.)
  • Good communication and interaction skills to interact with internal contacts with the ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot processes and equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of computers, equipment, tools, and paperwork associated with job including thorough understanding of standard work, in-process control sheets, and customer driven quality requirements.
  • Knowledge of plastic injection molds and components.
  • Ability to use manual machinery (mill, lathe, surface grinder, etc.)
  • Ability to operate the overhead crane.
  • Requires bending, heavy lifting, reaching, working in cramped and confined spaces.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. as needed.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must maintain proper vision requirements
  • Must be able to maintain alertness to their surroundings.
  • Must have a current and valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Work together with team in a flexible manner to achieve maximum productivity throughout the shift, liaising with the Shift Engineer to resolve problem areas.
  • To carry out mold servicing and repair to the required standard and timing to ensure tools are available for production on time and to plan.
  • Fabricates tools, machine parts, fixtures and gauges with or without sketches and prints using lathe, mill, drill press, welder and other tools.
  • Operates testing equipment, power tools, hand tools, torches, welders and precision measuring instruments.
  • Completes appropriate paperwork, machine documentation, and preventative maintenance records, updates data bases and retrieves information.
  • Performs housekeeping duties and maintains facilities including cleaning, organizing, disposal of grease/fluids, etc. Maintenance and 5-S in Chemical Storage Areas and workplace.
  • Follows procedures pertaining to safety and/or hazardous waste handling, which includes prescribed lock out procedures when working on equipment to prevent injury.
  • Performs startup/shutdown of machines as required by the MCL.
  • Performs other duties as necessary.
  • Properly handles and disposes of any hazardous waste material in respective areas.
  • May train other staff.
  • Understand your responsibility for health and safety in the workplace.

  • Wear the appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Follow all safety rules.
  • Report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Report injuries, accidents, illnesses, near misses, property damage immediately.
  • Will not remove or make ineffective any protective device such as a guard, light curtain, etc.
  • Will not use or operate any machine or equipment that the employee is not trained to operate.
  • Will not use or operate any machine or equipment in a manner that may endanger any employee including themselves.
  • Understand your responsibility for health and safety in the workplace.
  • Provide an employee with written instructions of the measures and procedures required to protect the employee.
  • Advise the employee of the existence of any potential or actual danger to the health or safety of the employee of which the supervisor is aware.
  • Understand your responsibility for visitors and general public health and safety in the workplace.
  • Cooperate with OSHA inspectors.
  • Do not allow discrimination against employees who properly exercise their right under OSHA.
  • Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment to set a good example.
  • Ensure that employees wear the appropriate protective devices.
  • Know the safety rules at Magna Mirrors - South Carolina.
  • Understand your responsibility to the environmental programs, including ISO14001.
  • Understand the importance of conformance with all environmental procedures of the environmental management system, including emergency response.
  • Understand the EMS consequences, actual or potential, of their work activities and/or their behaviors from specified work instructions.
  • Understands and follows existing Magna policies, procedures, work instructions and standards and makes recommendations for continuous improvements.
