About The Position

As a Tooling Specialist at Atlas Tube, a division of Zekelman Industries, in Kansas City, MO, you will play a key role in preparing, assembling, and maintaining roll trains and production tooling required for efficient mill operations. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on manufacturing environment, enjoys troubleshooting mechanical components, and is committed to safety, precision, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Technical/college degree preferred; military service equivalent accepted.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with strong attention to detail.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to read measuring devices and equipment.
  • Tube mill manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Strong communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to improving uptime, product quality, and overall mill performance.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, and pulling.
  • Regular, full-time onsite attendance required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb, bend, stoop, push, and pull.
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms and handle tools and equipment.
  • Visual acuity to read and record numerical data.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect tooling for damage or wear to support reliable mill performance.
  • Follow rolling schedules and coordinator instructions to prepare tooling for upcoming size changes.
  • Grease and lubricate roll trains prior to delivery to the mill.
  • Inspect and wash rolls, spacers, chock assemblies, and shafts after removal from the mill.
  • Inspect inductors and impeders for damage and replace as necessary.
  • Check bearings for defects and replace as needed.
  • Store rolls and tooling components properly to prevent damage and ensure readiness.
  • Perform daily lift truck inspections and report issues promptly.
  • Maintain accurate root diameter information for roll trains.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support mill operations.
