About The Position

The Tooling Specialist is responsible for effectively designing, engineering, drafting & building jigs, fixtures, die sets and specialized machines to meet customer print and quality specifications. This position will also be working with other departments on large projects and specialized cells.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent degree
  • Associates degree in Machine Tool Technology or related program
  • Strong computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Recognize and take action on safety concerns
  • Effectively work in a team environment
  • Utilize the proper inspection equipment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong coordination and judgment skills
  • Advanced math skills
  • Properly use appropriate measuring tools
  • Excellent blueprint reading skills with a good understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of tool making, set-up, programming and CNC machine operating experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that safety is always the number one priority at Alexandria Industries; promote and support a safe work environment and safety-oriented culture by following all safety programs and guidelines
  • Set up and run tool room equipment safely and efficiently in order to maximize output
  • Draw the part model using CAD software if not provided by the customer
  • Verify that both the provided customer model and customer print match
  • Design, build and program various tooling using CAD and CAM software (e.g. jigs, fixtures, die/punch tooling, specialized tooling, etc.)
  • Keep safety top of mind when designing and building parts for anyone that will come into contact or operate the part
  • Designs should incorporate ease of repair
  • Document projects accordingly: including cost of material, components & labor time
  • Responsible for ordering material and components
  • Ensure that all fixtures and components are built and assembled correctly
  • Produce customer prototypes when needed
  • Verify that parts meet customer or internal specifications and process capability requirements
  • Ensure that all processes meet quoted rates
  • Maintain CAD file accuracy for any tooling or part model
  • Consistently work and communicate with other employees throughout the department and company
  • Recognize opportunities for development of continuous improvement for department processes and procedures
  • Work closely with the Account Services department regarding tooling concepts
  • Work with outside service vendors on various tooling needs; special tooling, cutters, equipment, components, etc.
  • Keep work area clean and orderly using 5S (standardize, sustain, sort, set in order and shine)
  • Assist in the training of employees related to tooling as needed
  • Assist in other departments as directed
