Tooling Manufacturing Engineer

TEKsystemsAustin, TX
$45 - $75Onsite

About The Position

Saronic Technologies is looking to hire a Tooling Manufacturing Engineer to join their production team. Saronic Technologies is a defense technology company headquartered in Austin, TX, building autonomous surface vessels for the U.S. Navy and allied forces. The company entered production in February 2025 and has a significant and growing backlog of production tooling needs. This role sits within the Manufacturing Engineering team under the Production umbrella. Saronic is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Tooling Manufacturing Engineer to address its tooling backlog and drive continuous improvement in manufacturing processes. This role is critical for the ideation, design, creation, and ongoing lifecycle management of production support tooling and fixturing. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem-solver with a strong mechanical engineering background and a passion for delivering practical, ergonomic, and efficient tooling solutions quickly. Saronic needs someone who can iterate fast — ten good tools delivered in a month is more valuable than one perfect tool.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field strongly preferred; equivalent hands-on experience considered.
  • Proven experience as a manufacturing tooling engineer or in a similar role focused on production tooling design.
  • Expert-level understanding and application of GD&T.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software — NX, SolidWorks, Creo, or CATIA — for modeling and drawing creation.
  • Experience releasing engineering data through a PLM system — Teamcenter, Windchill, ENOVIA, Agile, or equivalent.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to both engineers and floor technicians.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, identify problems, and drive solutions at pace in a fast-moving manufacturing environment.
  • US Person status required.
  • Austin, TX on-site required.

Nice To Haves

  • NX and Teamcenter specifically.
  • Experience in a company undergoing significant growth or early-stage process development.
  • Hands-on fabrication or machining experience — not required to build tools themselves, but this makes for better designers.
  • Experience considering ergonomics and EHS requirements in fixture design.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop a wide range of production support tooling and fixturing including lifting fixtures, drill jigs, go/no-go gauges, check fixtures, and cutting guides to enhance manufacturing efficiency and product quality.
  • Utilize 3D CAD software for tool design and create detailed release-ready engineering drawings.
  • Manage the release of fixture designs and drawings through Saronic’s PLM system.
  • Apply GD&T principles rigorously in all designs to ensure precision, repeatability, and manufacturability.
  • Perform tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure tooling designs account for dimensional variation in composite and fabricated parts.
  • Proactively identify tooling requirements on the shop floor, prioritize the backlog, and rapidly deliver functional tools.
  • Develop and implement maintenance plans for production tooling to ensure longevity and consistent performance.
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, quality, and EHS teams to translate production needs into tooling solutions that are safe and ergonomic for technicians.
  • Contribute to the refinement and establishment of tooling processes and workflows in a and evolving company environment.
