The Tooling Designer drives innovation and efficiency by designing cutting-edge tools and equipment that enhance our manufacturing processes. This is a problem-solver role, troubleshooting tooling issues, leading tooling improvement teams, and overseeing design projects. The Tooling Designer is key in supporting new equipment purchases and installations. The Tooling Designer will represent manufacturing on multi-functional teams and champion production, quality, safety, and lean initiatives to boost overall facility performance.

  • Provides technical support, and performs product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency.
  • Designs new tools, fixtures, and equipment based on engineering and machining requirements.
  • Manage and control setup drawings for all machining centers.
  • Designs and creates manufacturing drawings for changes to existing tooling to improve the machining process on existing products.
  • Troubleshoot tooling problems for all work centers in the Machine Shop.
  • Chairs all the Tooling Improvement teams for tooling improvements in the Machine Shop.
  • Leads all aspects of assigned design projects.
  • Leads overall project, including budgets and outside suppliers and contractors.
  • Leads new equipment purchase, installation/implementation, and training.
  • Designs and creates manufacturing drawings for tooling for new product introduction.
  • Develops changes to existing process layouts to improve the machining process on existing products.
  • Represents manufacturing on multi-functional teams.
  • Support production, quality, safety, and lean initiatives to improve OEE and overall facility performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a 3D CAD/CAM environment (Solidworks, MasterCam, etc) or a combination of an Associate Degree in drafting, design, or a related technical field and 2 years experience in machine and tool design.
  • Experience in a high-volume machining environment (Brass preferred).
  • Experience in the design/development/support of screw and transfer machine tooling and equipment.
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Additional coursework or training in engineering, blueprint reading, or CAD/CAM.
  • Expertise in CAD software such as SolidWorks, MasterCam, etc.
  • GD&T Training or Certification.
