About The Position

The Tooling and Machining Maintenance Specialist maintains, repairs, fabricates, and continuously improves production tooling, fixtures, gauges, and shop‑made components, and provides preventive and corrective maintenance support for production equipment used to manufacture complex rotating jet engine components. Working with exotic aerospace alloys on advanced shop equipment in a clean, climate‑controlled facility, this role ensures the safety, quality, availability, and readiness of both tooling and equipment to meet SQDC goals. The Specialist will diagnose, repair, and calibrate mechanical and electro‑mechanical systems associated with manual machining assets and production tooling, actively participate in a team-based environment, lead problem solving, and train other technicians.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 4 years of Tooling and Die experience, including maintenance, substantial hands-on manual machining (milling, turning, grinding) with direct experience building/repairing tooling, fixtures, or precision components
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Therefore, employment will be contingent upon the ability to prove that you meet the status of a U.S. Person as one of the following: U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. Citizen, have been granted asylee or refugee status (i.e., a protected individual under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)).

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in a technical field or trade school certificate preferred
  • Proven experience producing or maintaining precision machine parts to blueprints and work instructions
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on troubleshooting of fixtures, gauges, and alignment systems
  • Track record of delivering results in safety, quality, delivery, and cost
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and flex to support off shifts as needed
  • Proficiency with computer systems and CMMS for work orders, documentation, and measurement data entry
  • Demonstrated leadership, organization, and communication skills; effective contributor in a self-directed team environment
  • Experience in aerospace or other regulated industries; familiarity with special processes and operator certifications

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret process operation sheets, tooling sheets, technical plans, blueprints, and related documents to service and build production tooling and fixtures.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain manual lathes, mills, surface grinders, and related equipment to fabricate, modify, and rework tooling components, nests, clamps, and alignment features to print.
  • Change, reset, and set up tooling; verify tool geometry and condition to meet specification.
  • Inspect parts, tooling, and fixtures using precision metrology (micrometers, vernier calipers, height gages, pin/plug gages); record dimensions and maintain traceable records in Maximo (CMMS).
  • Execute preventive maintenance on tooling, gauges, and manual machine shop equipment; update PM documentation and standard work as required.
  • Collaborate with operations and engineering to plan, prioritize, and maintain a tooling repair schedule; manage quick-turn repairs to support line availability.
  • Understand part and process flow (incoming/outgoing) to ensure tooling readiness for production demand.
  • Provide responsive floor support with minimal supervision as part of a high-performance, self-directed team; actively participate in daily team activities.
  • Comply with all safety and quality requirements, including LOTO, machine guarding, PPE, hot work permits, and NFPA 70E; sustain 5S, visual controls, and standard work in the tooling area.
  • Identify and implement improvements that increase tooling reliability, reduce setup time, and improve yield and flow; document learnings for future troubleshooting.
  • Train and mentor team members on best practices for tooling repair, metrology, and safe machine operation; provide hands-on guidance to build technical capability and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and knowledge sharing across the team
