About The Position

The Tool Technician is responsible for receiving, inspecting, maintaining, issuing, and tracking company tools and equipment to support field operations. This role ensures tools are safe, operational, properly documented, and available to crews in a timely manner. The Tool Technician also provides assist-only support for company fleet upkeep and general building maintenance to help maintain safe, organized, and efficient operations.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of construction, HVAC, mechanical, or industrial tools and equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude to identify basic tool issues.
  • Ability to follow written, verbal, and diagram instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills for inventory and documentation systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift and carry tools and equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in shop and jobsite environments.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs as required for jobsite and facility access.
  • Ability to work early morning schedules and occasional overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, store, issue, and track hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of tools issued and returned using the company tool management system.
  • Inspect all returned tools to verify proper operation and safety compliance before returning to stock.
  • Clean, lubricate, service, and perform minor non-technical repairs on tools and equipment.
  • Identify damaged, unsafe, or missing tools and report issues to supervision.
  • Tag, engrave, label, or barcode tools for identification and inventory control.
  • Prepare tools for jobsite delivery or pickup and coordinate transfers between locations.
  • Conduct periodic and perpetual tool inventories and assist with audits.
  • Assist with locating lost or misplaced tools through documentation review and jobsite verification.
  • Ensure all tools meet OSHA and company safety standards; remove unsafe tools from service immediately.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe tool shop, tool cages, and storage areas.
  • Assist with the general upkeep and organization of the company vehicle fleet, including staging, cleanliness, and preparation for service or inspection.
  • Perform basic visual checks of fleet vehicles (e.g., cleanliness, visible damage, tire condition) and report concerns to supervision or fleet management.
  • Assist with tracking fleet-assigned tools, equipment, and accessories stored in company vehicles.
  • Support fleet maintenance activities by coordinating vehicle movement and documenting issues as directed; no mechanical repairs required.
  • Assist with general shop and building upkeep, including cleanliness, organization, and minor non-technical tasks.
  • Support the maintenance of tool rooms, storage areas, yards, and common workspaces in a safe and orderly condition.
  • Report facility, building, or safety concerns to appropriate personnel.
  • Assist supervisors with facility-related projects and operational improvements as assigned.
