About The Position

The Tool Room Technician is responsible for setting up and operating various machine tools to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs, fixtures, and tools. This role requires proficiency in blueprint reading, machine programming, and understanding heat treat principles. The technician will also troubleshoot and maintain tool room equipment, ensuring quality standards are met while working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED or basic skills assessment required.
  • Associates degree from a 2-year college or 5 years' related experience and/or training in a facilities environment preferred.
  • Work experience within a manufacturing facility is a plus.
  • Basic computer knowledge of MS Office and Outlook, SAP, and Leading to Lean.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with 3D printing technology.
  • Familiarity with advanced manufacturing techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints.
  • Set up and operate machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill, and milling machine to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Program various tool room machines via conversational and G&M coding.
  • Understand heat treat principles of various tool steels.
  • Apply mathematics related to machine setup and fabrication of finished parts.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, align, calibrate, inspect, and test a variety of tool room equipment.
  • Perform equipment failure analysis and preventive maintenance.
  • Collaborate with engineering staff and outside vendors regarding fabrication and tooling design.
  • Visually inspect and test finished parts for quality standards and functionality.
  • Monitor equipment to detect malfunctions and take appropriate action to resolve issues.
  • Operate cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
  • Fabricate and repair counters, benches, guarding, and other structures.
  • Program and operate 3D printers of multiple styles and material mediums.
  • Work with vendors to gain supplies and materials as needed.
