The Tool Room & Workshop Specialist supports manufacturing operations by performing precision machining, maintenance, and repair of tooling, dies, and fixtures used in high-speed aluminum can and end production. This role ensures tooling reliability, precision part fabrication, and continuous support for production teams to maintain efficiency, quality, and uptime.

  • Tooling & Machining
  • Perform work requiring expert knowledge of machine shop and tool room practices, materials, and machining techniques.
  • Repair, alter, and fabricate end and can dies, including manufacturing replacement parts from hardened tool steel and carbide.
  • Operate precision machine tools (lathes, milling machines, grinders, etc.) to produce and refurbish tooling components.
  • Program and operate CNC equipment as required.
  • Precision & Quality:
  • Use precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges) to assemble, fit, align, and adjust parts to exact tolerances.
  • Run quality checks to ensure parts meet specifications and customer requirements.
  • Maintain accurate tooling inventories, set up tool packs, and verify tolerances.
  • Technical Analysis & Support:
  • Interpret blueprints, sketches, models, or part descriptions to determine materials, machining processes, and fabrication steps.
  • Work with assembly and production teams to troubleshoot equipment and tooling-related issues.
  • Support production by analyzing concerns and implementing corrective actions to improve reliability.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Participate in equipment rebuilds, refurbishments, and precision tooling upgrades.
  • Contribute ideas to improve machining processes, reduce downtime, and increase tool life. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workshop environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of machining ferrous, non-ferrous, and non-metallic materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, electrical schematics, and part specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting and equipment rebuild knowledge.
  • Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.
  • Team player who can collaborate across electrical and mechanical groups.
  • Good communication skills to document work and share findings with supervisors.
  • Flexibility to work any shift, overtime, and weekends as required.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training in Tool & Die Machining or related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment (high-speed packaging industry experience preferred).
  • Proven competency in operating machine shop tools and precision measuring equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience in CNC Programming, OD/ID Grinding, and Jig Grinding.
