We boldly challenge what’s possible for a sustainable world. Job Summary: Trane Technologies is now taking applications for Machinist and/or Tool and Die Maker in its Tyler, TX production facilities. This role consists of making complex set ups on a wide variety of tool room machinery to make, both manual and NC, modify and repair a variety of parts for tools, jigs, fixtures, dies, plant equipment, etc. Work from drawings, sketches, samples, verbal instructions, etc. to produce parts to close tolerances when necessary. Make sketches of modifications made to parts for print updating purposes. Perform related duties and work with a minimum of supervision.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a two-year formal machine shop course or documented equivalent experience with a variety of equipment, plus a minimum of one-year practical related experience.
  • Must be able to read blueprints and scale.
  • Will use their own hand tools and small measuring equipment, micrometers, calipers, etc.
  • May be required to demonstrate knowledge and ability to perform the above.
  • Must commit to completion of the following technical college courses from an accredited college or university (or equivalent courses approved in advance by maintenance unit manager) over a two-year period: Basic Math Trigonometry Basic Metallurgy Basic Welding (TIG, MIG, Heli-arc)
  • An annual status review relative to completion of the above coursework requirements may be conducted to ensure incumbents are on track for scheduled completion.
  • Note: It is expected that employees who are assigned to this classification will progress to a Toolmaker “B” classification upon completion of the above courses within the defined timeframe, successful job performance, and demonstration of the qualification requirements for a Toolmaker “B”, business conditions permitting.

Responsibilities

  • Must have evidence of shop math ability, including trigonometry.
  • Must be able to make complex set ups on a variety of tool room machinery.
  • Must have demonstrated performance and ability to perform work of a difficult nature, as evaluated at six-month intervals by a formal appraisal conducted by the production leader and/or apprenticeship coordinator.
  • Will use their own hand tools and small measuring equipment, micrometers, calipers, etc.
  • May be required to demonstrate knowledge and ability to perform the above.
