About The Position

A Tool Room Attendant for a large commercial electrical company is a critical logistics role responsible for managing the high-value inventory of specialized electrical tools and equipment. This position ensures that field electricians have the functional, safe, and calibrated tools necessary to maintain project schedules. The Tool Room Attendant is responsible for organizing, controlling inventory, and performing routine maintenance of specialized electrical tools and safety equipment. This role ensures that equipment such as conduit benders, wire pullers, and testing meters are available and in peak working condition for field teams. The attendant oversees the check-in/check-out process, tracks tool locations across multiple jobsites, and performs minor repairs or coordinates professional servicing to minimize project downtime.

Requirements

  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with commercial electrical tools (conduit benders, wire pullers, hammer drills) and materials.
  • Computer Literacy: Proficiency in tool management, database software, Microsoft Excel, or ERP systems like SAP for accurate data entry.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy equipment, typically between 25 to 50 lbs, but occasionally up to 100 lbs with assistance.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous record-keeping to prevent loss and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED is standard; additional vocational training in electrical trades or inventory management is preferred.
  • Certifications: A valid driver's license is often required for site deliveries; forklift certification may be necessary

Responsibilities

  • Inventory Control & Tracking: Manage the check-in/check-out process for tools using barcode systems or inventory software to maintain accountability.
  • Maintenance & Repair: Perform routine maintenance (lubricating, cleaning) and minor repairs on hand tools, power tools, and equipment such as generators or benders.
  • Safety Inspections: Inspect returned tools for damage, wear, or safety hazards; tag and remove defective equipment from service immediately to meet OSHA safety standards.
  • Procurement & Restocking: Monitor stock levels of consumables (e.g., standard wear parts, cutting blades, drill bits) and requisition replacements to maintain established min/max levels.
  • Logistics Coordination: Coordinate the transfer and delivery of tools to and from various jobsites.
  • Testing & Calibration: Ensure specialized electrical test equipment, such as multimeters and megohmmeters, is properly calibrated and certified for use.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed to support business operations.
