About The Position

The Tool Maker is responsible for building, repairing, and maintaining precision injection molds used in plastic medical device manufacturing. This role requires advanced machining skills, the ability to interpret 2D / 3D engineering drawings / models, and hands-on experience with manual and CNC machining equipment. The Tool Maker ensures molds meet exact specifications and operate reliably in production.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of plastic injection mold construction and tooling principles
  • Ability to repair, modify and maintain high precision production injection molds and robot assembly tools
  • Proficiency with manual machining equipment: mills, lathes, grinders
  • Experience operating CNC machining centers
  • Hands-on experience with EDM Sinker and EDM Wire machines
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models
  • Skilled in use of precision measurement and inspection equipment
  • Ability to hold tight tolerances and maintain high precision
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • High attention to detail and craftsmanship
  • Must have good troubleshooting skills
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Journeyman Tool Maker certification or equivalent experience
  • Experience building multi-cavity or complex injection molds
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software
  • Experience with mold repair, maintenance, and production support
  • Minimum of 5 years of Tool Making or Tools repair and Maintenance experience

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate injection molding problems to recommend and implement modifications as corrective actions.
  • Build, assemble, and fit precision plastic injection molds from engineering drawings and CAD data
  • Operate and set up manual machining equipment including mills, lathes, grinders, and drill presses
  • Program, set up, and operate CNC machining centers as needed
  • Operate EDM equipment, including Sinker EDM and Wire EDM, to produce precision mold components
  • Perform mold fitting, spotting, and assembly to ensure proper function and alignment
  • Inspect and verify component dimensions using precision measurement equipment (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, etc.)
  • Root cause identification and implementations of corrective actions.
  • The ability to work independently as well as function as part of a team, while working in a fast paced manufacturing environment
  • Maintain tight tolerances and high-quality standards in all tooling work
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve mold performance and manufacturability
  • Document work performed and maintain tooling records using existing systems.
  • Work on special projects as they arise
  • Actively demonstrating support through interactions with solid communication skills, attitude, dedication, commitment, respect, pride and trust.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and maintain a safe, clean work environment while operating machining equipment and handling tooling components
