Plans the job, determines methods and sequences of operations, makes layouts, fabricates, assembles, proves to exacting tolerances, and reworks as required all types and sizes of complex multiple-operating forming blocks and their accessories, of large and irregular shapes, including stretch-wrap forming blocks, double-operation router blocks and router jigs, and blocks used for forming parts under extreme high temperatures, where spring-back charts are not available, and it is necessary to exercise a complete knowledge of metal forming methods and of the physical characteristics of metals. Plans, determines, and prepares projection layouts for developing flat patterns of intersecting square, rectangular, conical and tubular-shaped parts such as metallic tooling, production templates and sheet metal assembly mockups, utilizing conventional and/or computer graphic systems, where it is required to exercise a complete knowledge of template making theory and practice, of sheet metal layout, and of tooling and aircraft fabrication methods and procedures. Works to exacting tolerances. Performs modification and rework of the level of difficulty of the operation described above. Makes match plates; “blues in” contour plates; drills, reams and/or taps holes; sets up tool details for welding; installs bushings, hold down clamps and pins; locates tooling locators and permanent reference points, lines, and surfaces on various types of tooling as required. Makes layouts, develops, and fabricates master and sample parts and such templates as box, contour, angle, form press, drill, gauge and flat layout templates, which must be calculated mathematically and/or developed by shop trial and error methods. Lays out flat templates using empirical bend allowance formulae. Makes templates from flat layout masters; makes sample parts from extruded or standard formed materials where pickup and/or interpretation of information from plaster patterns, fabrication or assembly tooling is not necessary; fabricates individual contour templates for use in box template setups. Performs drilling, reaming, grinding, filing, cutting, trimming, and similar operations as required. Sets up and operates power machine tools as required for the machining of tools and their accessories. Fabricates tools without the benefit of tool designs, working to standard tool manufacturing practice and procedure. Improvises shop aids to facilitate work assignments. Works to exacting tolerances.
