About the position

Analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to modify, fabricate, adjust, fit, assemble, and repair various die components (stripper plates, jigs and fixtures, gauges, etc.) to support production tooling and new tooling needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and modifying tooling designs and manufacturing processes in conjunction with programmers and engineering.
  • Operate all manual machinery to create necessary fixturing or to accommodate simple die modifications required to meet production needs.
  • Study specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualize product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.
  • Compute dimensions, plan layout, and determine assembly method and sequence of operations.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe metal stock for machining.
  • Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machine, shaper, and grinder, to machine parts, and verify conformance of machined parts to specifications.
  • Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances.
  • Examine standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommend design modifications regarding construction and function of part.
  • Develop specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draw or sketch design of product.
  • TIG weld on forge dies and trimmers.
  • Assist and/or lead training and give guidance to knockout personnel, die polishers, and machinists as needed.
  • Complete and troubleshoot forge die tooling assemblies.
  • Build complete trimmer assemblies and troubleshoot.
  • Clean and/or polish dies as needed.
  • Report unusual or unsafe conditions to lead man or manager.
  • Actively participate in efforts to establish and promote a safe and healthy work environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 3-5 years of experience.
  • Completed Journeyman’s apprenticeship as a Tool & Die Maker or Mold Maker required.
  • TIG welding experience required.
  • Previous experience as a CNC set-up operator a plus.
  • Proficiency in tooling as well as precision measurement tools (dial indicators, calipers, micrometers, etc.) required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience deburring manifolds preferred.
