About The Position

Amentum is seeking a 1st shift Tool & Fixture Machinist to join our team of multi-skilled maintenance technicians in Lafayette, IN. Typical work schedule is 1st shift; 06:30 AM - 3:00 PM; hours may vary based on critical business demands and may include call-ins or after hour repairs as needed to support production. Position Responsibilities: Operates a full range of machine shop equipment including but not limited to Kent engine lathes, Sharp 3080V heavy duty lathe, Sharp VH3 milling machine, TRAK DPM5, steel band saws, boring, honing, and surfacing machines. Performs preventive maintenance on mechanical systems control and operating systems as scheduled in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Performs alignment procedures on the machines. May perform work involved in fabrication, modification, or repair of equipment used for research test and evaluation projects. Performs machine shop work as necessary for tooling and production support equipment. Performs machine shop work as required by production and re-work facility requirements. Complies with Environmental, Health & Safety, and Quality Assurance requirements and goals. Provides documentation as necessary to ensure adequate legal documentation. Assists the team with maintaining, operating and troubleshooting mechanical systems and equipment such as pumps, bearings, blowers, fans, gearboxes, conveyors and other equipment as required. Safely performs functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis and lockout/tagout procedures and wearing PPE as required. Operates a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work. Demonstrates flexibility in the day-to-day activities and scheduling for the benefit of the customer. Demonstrated fluency in computer use including the full Microsoft product line. Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress. Requires the ability to communicate with others on the telephone and in one-on-one or group discussions, meetings and presentations. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Five years of experience as a tool and fixture maker or machinist in an industrial environment or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must be innovative and creative in adapting available materials and parts to meet a wide range of needs and applications.
  • Must be proficient in layout, test fit and design of prototypes.
  • Experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in a CNC production environment.
  • Experience with welding, cutting, brazing, etc.
  • Experience in operations and maintenance in an industrial, large commercial, or logistics distribution environment.
  • Experience safely utilizing a wide variety of hand and power tools.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry, email, etc.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment, including applying proper safety practices and following procedures while performing maintenance tasks.
