About The Position

A Tool & Die Technician is responsible for the fabrication, assembly, maintenance, and testing of precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures used in manufacturing processes. This role requires strong knowledge of blueprint interpretation, machining techniques, precision measurement, and quality control to ensure tooling meets exact specifications and production requirements.

Requirements

  • Highschool diploma or equivalent GED
  • Proven experience working as a Tool and Die Maker or Tool & Die Technician in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong knowledge of machining processes and machine tools
  • Extensive experience using metalworking equipment including: Drills Milling machines CNC machining centers Grinders Lathes
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and design schematics
  • Experience with GD&T and dimensional inspection methods
  • Experience with precision measurement equipment and quality control analysis
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift objects up to 25 lbs unassisted
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting, and working in confined spaces
  • Ability to climb and work around large equipment when required
  • Ability to work multiple shifts and overtime as needed

Responsibilities

  • Blueprint Interpretation & Measurement Use in-depth knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) to interpret blueprints and technical drawings at all assembly levels
  • Visualize and compute metal shapes, tolerances, and dimensional relationships
  • Establish and apply accurate reference systems for measurement and alignment both on and off the part or tool
  • Analyze collected dimensional data and provide recommendations for corrective actions or additional operations
  • Tooling Fabrication & Machining Measure, mark, and prepare metal stock for machining
  • Set up and operate machine tools including: CNC milling machines CNC lathes Manual mills and lathes Surface grinders Drill presses
  • Cut, shape, and machine metal components to specified dimensions and tolerances
  • Fill, grind, polish, shim, and finish metal surfaces to ensure smooth finishes and proper fit
  • Tool & Die Assembly Fit and assemble tool and die components, including punch dies and related tooling assemblies
  • Design and build jigs, fixtures, and templates to assist in fabrication and assembly processes
  • Inspect finished tools and dies for defects, dimensional accuracy, smoothness, and contour deformities
  • Conduct test runs and functional trials with completed tools and dies to verify performance
  • Quality Control & Process Support Perform quality control analysis on tooling and fabricated components
  • Troubleshoot tooling issues and recommend improvements to ensure precision and performance
  • Communicate effectively with fabricators, machinists, assemblers, engineers, and other production team members to resolve technical issues and support manufacturing operations
  • Observes the operation of machines and equipment to ensure continuous operation and to detect processing defects
  • Conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality and performance
  • Team Commitment Identify potential hazards in the workplace to take action to eliminate/minimize risks; notifies supervisor(s) of all injuries, illnesses and other safety incidents immediately
  • Ensure the Technical Services Department is clean and free of debris using the LEAN method to comply with Trim-Tex safety regulations
  • Build an environment of teamwork, when available and needed assist coworkers in their duties
