Objective: To assure the quality and longevity of all dies through troubleshooting and repairs to dies, both in the press and/or on the bench, to enable us produce a product that consistently meets or exceeds MPT Sterling Heights’ high standards for quality. Scope: All aspects & functions of the work required to maintain tools including tool maintenance, troubleshooting and repair, continuous improvement and MAFACT activities for MPT Sterling Heights.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Journeyman’s card or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5-7 years’ experience with progressive, transfer and line dies.
  • Read, understand and interpret prints.
  • Meets minimum requirements on Toolroom Skill Assessment & Requirements Matrix.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, technical procedures, governmental regulations, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database software, Autocad, internet software, manufacturing software, Microsoft Office, AS400.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair dies in the press and\or on the bench.
  • Ability to follow directives from Leader/Manager.
  • Schedule preventive maintenance/predictive maintenance.
  • Monitor die apprenticeship training, (if applicable).
  • Brainstorm improvements in tooling and in all plant processes.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities, submits CI suggestions.
  • Assist the organization in implementation of MAFACT, including lean, standardized work, implementation of SMED and continuous improvement activities.
  • Performs basic first off inspections on CMM.
  • Responsible to set up and operate Toolroom.
  • Responsible to complete all required Toolroom documentation (paperwork and computer) including Last-off Reports, Die Maintenance Reports, Mis-hit Reports, etc.
  • Responsible for the safety, cleanliness and orderliness of the Toolroom and at presses when performing work.
  • Responsible for removing, repairing and installing all die sections that have been damaged or are dull, and verifying that work has been done correctly.
  • Ability to dry run dies and check clearances and alignment of tools.
  • Ability to time out binder pads and lifters.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities, submits Cost saving improvement suggestions, CIP’s.
  • Ensure that company policies and procedures are adhered to including IATF 2016:16949, ISO14001 (EMS), Mafact and Employee Handbook.
  • Follows MIOSHA and MPTSH safety regulations and policies, including wearing required P.P.E. (Personal Protective Equipment) and Lockout.
  • Reports unsafe conditions to Supervisor/Leader.
  • Complies with the designated ISO / 14001 responsibilities related to effective environmental management in accordance with MPT’s Environmental Management System (EMS).
