The Tool & Die Maker A position involves planning and performing a wide variety of bench and machine operations to build, alter, or repair highly complicated dies, tools, gauges, fixtures, or jigs. The role requires maintaining extremely close tolerances, and may involve operating any type of tool room precision equipment. The individual must be able to diagnose and remedy tool difficulties while working in conjunction with Tool Engineers and Designers. Knowledge of all types of precision measuring instruments is essential, as well as the ability to devise new methods, develop new tools, and plan a sequence of work. The position also includes cutting, drilling, filing, shaping, fitting, and assembling parts with or without the use of blueprints, and understanding the general effect of heat treatment on various metals.
