The Engineering R & D Lab - Tool & Die Machinist position at Victaulic involves working in a Corporate Engineering Research and Development Laboratory, responsible for machining and fabricating high-quality components and prototypes. The role requires ensuring that all dimensional standards and requirements are met during the prototype construction stage, with frequent creative input needed as prototype specifications are often incomplete during early project development. The position is a 2nd shift opportunity, working a 4-day work week from Monday to Thursday, 2:30 PM to 12:30 AM.

  • Set up and operate machine tools including milling machines, engine and slant bed lathes, surface grinders, drill presses, and tool & cutter grinders.
  • Use applicable hand tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and depth gauges.
  • Machine prototype components from 3-D model files supplied from Engineering Design.
  • Design, machine, and test prototypes and fixtures creatively when standard methods do not apply.
  • Machine components or prototypes to supplied Engineering blueprints within specified tolerance requirements.
  • Provide innovative input to Engineering staff to help meet overall program goals.
  • Determine necessary equipment and operating parameters for assignments.
  • Design and construct fixtures for machining processes as necessary.
  • Perform bench work with hand tools as necessary.
  • Maintain machine tools, equipment, and work area.
  • Work from written or verbal instructions.
  • Participate in the Quality Improvement Program.
  • Perform Technical Lab functions as necessary.
  • Follow safety procedures and guidelines.
  • High school graduate.
  • Proficient in blueprint reading, assembly drawings, shop math, geometry, and use of precision measuring instruments.
  • Proficient in bench work including drilling, tapping, filing, assembly, and inspection of components.
  • Minimum of eight years of machine shop or related experience.
  • Ability to set up, operate, and maintain all Lab machine tools safely.
  • Ability to operate or adapt to CNC controlled machine tools including programming and set-up.
  • MasterCam experience preferred but not necessary.
  • Relocation assistance offered.
