About The Position

The Tool & Die Group Leader – Marion Metal Center is responsible for leading a team of skilled tool and die makers and related support personnel to safely achieve production, quality, and cost objectives in the stamping operation. This role provides day-to-day leadership, drives problem solving, and ensures that tools, dies, and associated equipment are maintained to support stable operations and continuous improvement in the Marion Metal Center Tool & Die area.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in Tool & Die , Stamping , or closely related manufacturing operations.
  • Working knowledge of stamping dies, press operations, and tool room practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience (group leader, team leader, supervisor, or equivalent).
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and prioritization skills in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate clearly with hourly and salaried employees.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and off-shifts, to support operations.
  • 18 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Tool & Die Group Leader or similar leadership role within GM or automotive manufacturing.
  • Experience at Marion Metal Center or within GM Stamping operations.
  • Familiarity with GM Global Manufacturing System (GMS), PMQH, and related manufacturing systems and standards.
  • Strong understanding of die design, tryout, and optimization.
  • Proficiency with standard office and manufacturing systems (e.g., Outlook, SharePoint, maintenance tracking tools).

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of tool & die employees to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets.
  • Champion a zero-injury safety culture; ensure compliance with all GM safety policies, lockout/tagout, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate tool and die maintenance, repair, and tryout activities to support press uptime and product launch requirements.
  • Prioritize and schedule work (corrective, preventive, and improvement tasks) in alignment with production needs.
  • Use structured problem-solving (e.g., root cause analysis, 5-Why) to address chronic issues and improve die performance.
  • Partner with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, and Quality to resolve tooling concerns and launch new/modified dies.
  • Support implementation of GM systems and initiatives (e.g., GMS, PMQH, layered audits, standardization, best-practice sharing, WPO Standards for area of responsibility).
  • Develop, coach, and performance-manage team members; support training and skill development for Tool & Die personnel.
  • Monitor key metrics (safety, downtime, scrap, overtime, cost) and implement countermeasures as required.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of tool changes, repair histories, and standards.
  • Support weekend and off-shift coverage as required by business needs.
