About The Position

When you come to work at the GE Aerospace Airfoils facility located in Piedmont, SC, just outside of Greenville, you’ll come to realize that you’re in a place where you can do your best. We’re producing High Pressure Turbine Blades that help power tomorrow’s commercial and military aircraft. We’re using innovative production methodologies including complex machining, special processes, and NDT. As the Tool Designer, you will create and design tooling and fixtures using NX CAD modeling and drafting systems to create solutions to production issues, incorporate lean manufacturing techniques, and incorporate standardization and best practices between common production parts. The ideal candidate will have expertise in NX CAD modeling, AutoCAD, drafting/print making/reading, metal stock selection, 3D printing, and fit and assembly of parts. In addition to creating tool and fixture design experience, the ideal candidate will have AutoCAD experience to assist with 2D layouts and value stream maps. This role will be onsite Monday - Thursday.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of design in CAD software experience)

Responsibilities

  • Strong development of specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and models design of product using NX and/or AutoCAD
  • Knowledge and experience with TeamCenter, print creation, and management
  • Examine current or previously used dies, tools, jigs and fixtures to design modifications regarding construction and function of part
  • Develop and design templates and library part models to improve design accuracy, standardization, and efficiency
  • Share 3D Print duties with other designer(s) for the tool room: used to rapid prototype, create tooling, and other uses as needed
  • Create and/or analyze work orders, blueprints, sketches, models, and/or descriptions to visualize shape of a part or tool and determine material required
  • Input dimensions, plan layout, and determines assembly method of sequence of operation
  • Inspect and verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances
