About The Position

The Cutting Tool Designer is responsible for initiating and completing the concept design phase for complex CBN, PCD, SCD and Indexable cutting tools. This includes producing detailed drawings and defining production routings for tooling used across various industries. The role involves close collaboration with Sales, Production, and Customers to ensure tooling is designed and delivered accurately and on schedule.

Requirements

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering is preferred.
• Machining experience is preferred.
• Ability to read blueprints is required.
• Vocational school or apprenticeship valued.
• Manufacturing background is preferred.
• SolidWorks experience is preferred.
• Computer programming experience is valued.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of cutting tool series application understanding.
• Must have MS office skills.
• Ability to demonstrate a high level of spatial awareness and ability to conceptualize complex geometry.
• Excellent oral/written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and an attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Design and Quote custom CBN, PCD, SCD and Indexable cutting tools.
• Collect data by interfacing with customers and sales to help make a selection of tool type.
• Gather manufacturing and engineering data to effectively evaluate production feasibility of the customer request and provide accurate quotations to the customer.
• Communicate directly with customers regarding quotations, applications, and design details.
• Request material quotes for materials when needed.
• Make engineering changes to existing designs.
• Other duties as assigned.
