Are you passionate about Tool Design?  S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Manufacturing Engineering department.  As a Tool Design Engineer, you’ll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team. The Manufacturing Engineering Department is responsible for designing production tooling including fixtures, gages, assembly tooling, stamping dies, and product test equipment or to make improvements to existing tooling. In this position you will be given assignments requiring the use of a 3D CAD with Siemens Solid Edge, using 3DX platform to design new or redesign tools and help troubleshoot or problem solve various types of tooling. You will be working from various types of drawings and blueprints ranging from simple hand drawn documents or detail drawings to complicated CAD generated assemblies. You will be required to maintain high quality and productivity standards and adhere to all applicable safety practices and procedures. This position requires good verbal communication skills and the ability to work closely with other tool design engineers and tool makers, machinists, engineers, designers, and production personnel in a team environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related engineering field (e.g., Manufacturing Engineering, Tool Engineering, Mechatronics, or Industrial Engineering) or work experience equivalent.
  • CAD Certification.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in manufacturing environment involving processes and tools.
  • Must be able to work independently, meet productivity and due date requirements of assignments.
  • Understand the properties and characteristics of various tool materials and their applications.
  • Understand the properties of production materials such as mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, and bronze and how they are affected by the stresses of machining and forming.
  • Understanding of stress analysis.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD systems (Solid Edge preferred).
  • Strong understanding of tool and production material properties.
  • Ability to apply shop mathematics, including geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to create and interpret CAD-generated drawings and assemblies.
  • Strong problem-solving capability and ability to work independently.
  • Strong organization and presentation skills, including ability to map out projects, prioritize workloads and maintain documentation.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical circuits.
  • Microsoft Office skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and troubleshoot various types of tools including fixtures (including underhook lifting fixtures), gages, assembly tooling and logistic equipment.
  • Assume responsibility for the quality of completed assignments.
  • Problem solve and determine solutions for various types of tooling problems.
  • Assemble designed equipment.
  • 3D CAD modeling.
  • 3D printing.
  • Prepare and submit requests for quotes (RFQs).
  • Create purchase requisitions in the Oracle system.
  • Cooperate with suppliers.
  • Collaborate with other departments.
  • Support and mentor fellow team members in the candidate’s area of expertise.
  • Help ensure projects meet cost, quality, and timing targets.
  • Track project progress, identify risks, and escalate issues to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
  • Collaborate with tool designers to ensure manufacturability, functionality, and compliance with standards.
  • Ensure design files, revisions, and project records are properly organized.
