About The Position

We are currently seeking a Tool Design Engineer III. Under the direction of the Tool Design Manager, this position will be responsible for the development of conceptualized tooling solutions and creation of CAD models to support the tooling requirements for any given project. The Tool Design Engineer III will utilize extensive knowledge and experience to plan and accomplish goals. The incumbent in this position will develop technical solutions to problems with a high level of complexity and will exercise considerable latitude in determining the technical objectives and methodology of an assignment. The Tool Design Engineer III will guide the successful completion of major programs and may function in a project leadership role. In addition, the Tool Design Engineer III may represent the organization as the prime technical contact for contracts and projects. This individual will work both independently as well as part of a team to complete specific projects related to the design and development of tooling solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of tooling experience in the Aerospace Industry or related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of Unigraphics NX and/or CATIA V5 CAD software.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the design of metal forming tools, including welding, EDM, and heat treat.
  • Design assembly fixtures, mechanical equipment, and some robotics.
  • Take a design from concept to drawing release.
  • Evaluate requirements to develop tool concepts.
  • Develop complex tool and equipment specifications.
  • Present alternative concepts for complex tools and equipment.
  • Manipulate data sets such as conceptual tool design models and deliverable designs.
  • Create and modify tool designs.
  • Develop and implement alternative methods and interim solutions for damaged or unsafe tools and equipment.
  • Participate in tool/equipment try-outs to ensure requirements have been satisfied.
  • Evaluate and develop/revise preventative maintenance requirements for tools.
  • Respond to requests for review and evaluate ability to produce proposed design.
  • Assist in determining methodology for assembly of components.
  • Investigate, develop, and verify feasibility of tool concepts.
  • Incorporate safety, ergonomic, and regulatory requirements in tool designs.
  • Direct work of others and act as a lead.
