About The Position

The Tool & Die Technician is responsible for maintaining tooling, dies, and production equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable manufacturing operations. This role supports production and maintenance / facilities operations by applying advanced machining and tooling expertise in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). The position requires independent judgment, precision workmanship, and in-depth knowledge of compression molding tools, die stamping equipment, and associated manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Performs work from general instructions with minimal supervision, demonstrating strong technical judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Fabricates new tooling components and replacement parts to close tolerances using appropriate machining methods and equipment.
  • Disassembles, repairs, modifies, and reassembles tooling and production machinery to restore or maintain proper operating condition.
  • Maintains accurate records related to inspections, testing, preventive maintenance, and repairs of tooling and equipment.
  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on compression molding tools and die stamping equipment.
  • Inspects and verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances of compression molds (TLCM) to ensure conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauge blocks, and dial indicators.
  • Cleans, installs, removes, tests, and safely handles molds and dies as required to support production.
  • Collaborates with Manufacturing, Engineering, and external tooling partners to recommend tooling modifications, repairs, and improvements.
  • Interprets and follows technical drawings, specifications, work instructions, schedules, and verbal or electronic communications.
  • Ensures full compliance with SOPs, GMP requirements, and all applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.

  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality to meet production and customer requirements; willingness to work off-shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement by identifying issues early and contributing to corrective actions.
  • Participates in department, safety, and quality meetings; actively support continuous improvement and DPS initiatives.
  • Trains and mentors new technicians or trainees as assigned.
  • Performs routine and detailed cleaning of tools and dies using specialized processes and equipment, including pressure washers, heated tables, and self-contained bead blasting systems.
  • Sets up, operates, and maintains conventional and/or CNC machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and related equipment to machine parts to specified dimensions, tolerances, and surface finishes.
  • Interprets engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions to visualize and calculate dimensions, tolerances, fits, and assembly relationships.
  • Inspects machined and finished components for surface quality, dimensional accuracy, contour conformity, and defects using visual inspection and precision measuring instruments.
  • Fits, assembles, and aligns components to manufacture, repair, or modify dies, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and tooling using appropriate hand tools and machine tools.
  • Follows all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), lockout/tagout, and safe material handling practices.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe tool shop environment in accordance with company standards and GMP requirements.
  • Ability to troubleshoot tooling issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Experience working to close tolerances and performing precision machining.
  • Basic knowledge of metallurgy, heat treatment, and surface finishes.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
