About The Position

Under the direction of the supervisor, either directly or through the leadperson, the tool and die maker is responsible for the proper set-up and operation of various tool room equipment with minimal supervision in the manufacture, repair or maintenance of a variety of tooling. Working from engineered drawings, specs and/or instructions from the leadperson or supervisor, the tool and die maker will have complete responsibility for determining the best methods and machines required in the manufacture or repair of tools to close tolerances. This individual must be able to operate a variety of machine tools such as lathes, millers, universal grinders, surface grinders and tooling such as collets, chucks, compression and cold head dies, punches, assembly fixtures, jaws, drill jigs, etc. This person must be able to use and interpret various precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, verniers, indicators and related gaging instruments. The tool and die maker is responsible for maintaining equipment in good working order through both periodic and proper lubrication and reporting of maintenance requirements to the leadperson or supervisor on a timely basis. This person must keep the work area and machine clean and will be responsible for the segregation, identification and transportation of parts in the work area. This individual will also be responsible for requisitioning, through the leadperson and the supervisor, any tool, and supplies required to accomplish an assigned job. This person will train new employees as required and other responsibilities include maintaining accurate production records and counts, performing unusual or experimental work and performing any other reasonable duties as assigned by the supervisor.
