About The Position

The Tool and Die Maker is to craft dies and metal tools. They will be required to interpret design schematics, cut and shape dies, and assemble completed parts. The Tool and Die Maker will be responsible for testing the performance of the completed product. The Tool and Die Maker should have in-depth knowledge of metalwork and engineering, a good eye for detail, and the ability to visualize structural components. They should be able to translate ideas into expertly crafted metal forms ready for the manufacturing process. The Tool and Die Maker will report to the Tool and Die Supervisor. This position will support all three shifts. Candidates must be flexible and willing to move between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts as needed.

  • Two years of experience in die set-up
  • Ability to climb
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds unassisted
  • Knowledge of dies and repairs
  • Math skills (algebra)
  • Understand press operation

Responsibilities

  • Support and follow the company safety, environmental, and quality programs.
  • Wash, prepare, and maintain dies.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, design schematics, and CAD drawings.
  • Visualize and compute metal shapes and tolerances.
  • Design jigs and templates as work aids in the fabrication of parts.
  • Measure and mark metal stock for machining.
  • Use overhead crane as needed.
  • Set up and run machine tools such as drills, lathes, grinders, and milling machines.
  • Cut and shape blocks to specified dimensions.
  • Fill, grind, and shim metals to ensure a smooth finish.
  • Fit and assemble tools and die parts.
  • Obtaining first piece approval.
  • Make process improvements.
  • Complete paperwork and revise process sheets.
  • Ship and receive tooling.
  • Transport dies between storage areas and production sites.
  • Maintain die location records.
  • Inspect finished dies and tools for defects, smoothness, and contour deformities.
  • Conduct test runs with completed tools and dies.
  • Perform all other work as deemed necessary by supervision.
