About the position

If you enjoy working with children and are a team player, then we would love for you to apply and join our Y family located at the Sarah and Richard Hardy Center for Child Development in Southbridge! Under the supervision of the Teacher, the Toddler Floating Assistant teacher will assist the classroom teacher in setting up and implementing daily curriculum which promotes, social, cultural, education, physical and emotional growth. Additional responsibilities includes performing housekeeping chores as necessary and providing a quality experience to children that focuses on the YMCA.

Responsibilities

  • Has knowledge of and maintains NAEYC and DEEC standards.
  • Assists classroom teacher in implementing daily lesson/activity plans to support a developmentally appropriate curriculum.
  • Greets and interacts both with parents and children in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Is cognizant of children's safety at all times.
  • Makes and records observations of the children.
  • Maintains classroom equipment.
  • Change and feed children.
  • Supervise outdoor play, handwashing, and toileting.
  • Flexible to schedule changes and may be required to work in other classrooms, where appropriately certified, based on staffing needs.
  • Attends and participates in family nights, staff meetings, staff trainings and YMCA special events.
  • Additional duties as required and assigned by a supervisor to support the overall mission of the YMCA and to ensure the success of the Child Care Department.

Requirements

  • Meets educational and experience qualifications established by DEEC, NAEYC, and QRIS.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Must obtain, and keep current, certification in CPR, First Aid and Child Abuse Prevention.
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  • Experience working with children with trauma preferred.
  • Is flexible with schedule changes.
